Michelle L. LaFayette

Michelle L. LaFayette is a partner in Ganan & Shapiro’s Chicago office. Ms. LaFayette represents employers in the defense of workers’ compensation cases in Chicago and Wheaton, Illinois. Ms. LaFayette represents clients in arbitration, before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, Circuit and Appellate courts.

Ms. LaFayette is a member of the workers’ compensation section council of the Illinois State Bar Association, serving as the Secretary of the Council for the 2011-2012 year and the Vice Chairperson for the 2012-2013 year.

Ms. LaFayette has been a guest lecturer in a number of seminars including the IAIABC Annual Convention in 2005, the 33rd Annual Workers’ Compensation College in 2006 on many occasions as part of the Illinois State Bar Association’s curriculum and to the arbitrators and commissioners as part of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission’s judicial training program. Additionally, Ms. LaFayette has published numerous articles including No Causal Connection for Claimant, Despite Cracked Helmet, ISBA Workers’ Compensation Section Newsletter September 2006 and A Tort Plaintiff, but No Defendant, ISBA Workers’ Compensation Section Newsletter September 2007.

Ms. LaFayette joined Ganan & Shapiro in 1997 as a law clerk in the Chicago office.  After graduation, Ms. LaFayette was hired as an Associate in 2000.  Ms. LaFayette received her J.D., from the DePaul University College of Law in 2000. Ms. LaFayette received her bachelor’s degree from Illinois College where she graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa in 1995.
